Read Across America–Thursday AND Friday
Is anyone writing your own Seuss-ism? You should try. It’s as easy as pie. Bring them to the media center or post them to this blog. You’ll have fun creating it…don’t sit like a knot on a log!
Our Seuss-ism for Thursday:
“Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way.”
Trivia Question for Thursday:
What is the title of the final book published before Dr. Seuss’s death?
Seuss-ism for Friday:
“And when they played they really played. And when they worked, they really worked.”
Trivia Question for Friday:
Who chopped down the Truffula trees?
Read Across America Week

I’m excited to unveil our plans for celebrating Read Across America Week next week. As you know, each year we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2nd by having special events in the media center and throughout our school.
Dr. Seuss wrote children’s books that appeal to all ages. His books are filled with what have been called, “Seuss-isms“. Each morning Mrs. Hawley will announce a Seuss-ism of the day and I will also have it on my blog. I would like you to think about what it really means and see if you can apply it to your life.
You may have a favorite Seuss-ism you would like to share. If you do, please write it down and give it to me to be posted on this blog. I would also like students to try to create your own Seuss-ism. When you are finished, put your name on it and either email it to me, or post it as a comment to this post. Mrs. Trammell and I will choose our favorite for a prize to be announced on Friday afternoon.
Also, we’ll have Dr. Seuss trivia each day. Place your answers in the box outside the media center. A winner will be announced each afternoon.
If you visit the media center during the week, you are welcome to take a bookmark commemorating Read Across America Week at Freedom.
You’ll notice our windows are decorated with pictures of teachers. The book cover to the right of each picture is his/her favorite book. Take a minute when walking by to look at the pictures. You’ll recognize many of their favorites as your favorites also. You might use those as recommendations of good titles for you to read.
To paraphrase one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books:
1 book
2 books
Red books
Blue books
This one has a little star, this one has a little car
My how many books to read there are!
Don’t be a stranger in the media center next week. Come join the fun!
