I’ve taken a vacation from blogging lately, but the Media Center has been operating full steam ahead!

Fall into Books at the FMS Media Center…

The 1st quarter is almost over and boy have the Patriots been reading! I have distributed 5 boxes of Hershey bars already this year! Way to go!

Some announcements:

Teen Read Week is October 17-21st and to celebrate, Cafe Read-a-latte will be back with a few tweeks. Stay tuned for more info soon! We’ll also have contests with prizes throughout the week. A fun time will be had by all who participate!

Summertime…and the Livin’ is Easy…

Those are words to a famous song in the opera “Porgy and Bess”, sung by the jazz singer, Ella Fitzgerald. That was a long time ago, but they are hopefully still true today. My wish for you is to get some rest and relax awhile. Do something you love to do but don’t have time during the school year. I hope you’ll also have some time to read a fun book. Don’t worry if it’s AR or not, just read it, just for the fun of it!

If you need help with some good titles, check out my website for the Suggested Summer Reading List. We put titles on there that are just plain fun to read! If you want to get started on the Georgia Children’s Book Award Nominees, the new list is on my website, too, and there are some especially good ones.

May Musings…

You guys are keeping me very busy this month! It is amazing how many books you are reading!

Things to remember this month:

Dewey is due Monday
Fines/overdues must be cleared by May 11th
Dewey party is May 12th
All books due back to the media center by May 20th

The Summer reading list is ready and will be posted on my website soon. Consult it for some great suggestions for fun summer reads.

Dewey Sheets Due Soon

To attend the Dewey party (which you don’t want to miss!) you’ll need your Dewey sheet signed, sealed, and delivered to Mrs. Ward by May 9th. Don’t delay…you can finish! The party is May 12 during Connections.

Book Fair THIS Week

The Cafe is OPEN (soon)!

Mmm…hot chocolate, a latte with lots of whipped cream…sounds good to begin a cold day with a hot drink…Those of you who have read 20 books on your Dewey sheet will be happy to know that Cafe Readalatte will open again before the February break. If you haven’t read your 20 books yet, don’t despair…you can get one for the high price of….$.50! Come on your designated day and hang out with your friends before school. February 16, 17, 18…put them on your calendar NOW so you won’t forget. The 16th is for 8th grade, 17th for 7th grade, and 18th for 6th grade…See ya!

With the recent shootings in Arizona and the resulting dialogue, I was wondering what the students at Freedom think about violence in books and media that you read. Do you think it is too much? Do you think it affects teenagers (good or bad)? I would love to hear your comments.
